In this picture most of the weather and lights can be found: sun, darkness, rain, clouds, blue sky, natural light, artificial light. All in a single picture: it is not so usual find all them together. Isn’t it beautiful?
Early morning at the balcony. A curious coincidence make that jet contrail as a sharp turn (probably there were two) trace. Joining this with the bright warm colors of the rising sun and the cold blue sky, as well as the absolute calm of that moment make this image noteworthy for me. Hope for you too!
… and dead was I too! (Aigues Mortes = roughly “Dead Waters”). Well over 30 C° the walk of this magnificent town walls was a bit hard to bear. Only the beauty of the city and the fantastic colors of the Camargue helped me to complete it. The small clouds at high altitute didn’t help to screen the sun, but they were marvelous to look at and, of course, to photograph. The polarizer helped to increase the color depth, helping too the impression of a really hot day. After the walk, the icecream was very welcome!
I did not think that I had to find both cows and such fog so high in mountain. Well, more than fog it was a cloud, but this looks to be not so important for the final result. By the way we had to move away sometime later, because looks like that we were invading some part of the grass field that the cows wants to stay free form humans.
I took this picture during an airshow. It’s a classical warbird (WW II era) carefully restored. It’s a classical picture, which I like because the wing has the same inclination as the far background clouds (the plane was turning around a pylon).
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO100) I was in mountain during a quite gray day. Sometimes a small clear patch happened in the clouds, and I was lucky enough to capture these peaks which came out for few minutes. They make me think to a dreamy atmosphere. The picture was taken in Lanzo valley (NW Italy)
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO100) Walking in Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer (Camargue, France) shoreline, I saw these nice lod-looking streetlamps, and with the light cloud overcast it was easy, just pushing the contrast a bit, obtain an almost black or white image.
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/10, 1/400 sec, ISO100) Some fishermen were on the Ceresole Reale dam lake (yet quite empty in this season). I was fascinated by their positions and the few colors present: just the blue over the b/w. I had to wait until some cloud shadows came to help to avoid a too much white background. The result is an image with some fairy-tale setting.
NIKON D40X (18mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec, ISO100) A wonderful small church over the town of Castellane (Haute Provence – South of France). The church is placed on the top of a rock, which, even if when seen from the town looks a demanding hike, is an easy and nice walk of half-hour. When on the top, I was fascinated by how the church is well amalgamented with the mountain, and by the silence. The presence of nice clouds helped me to take this shoot when resting on the side of the rock.
NIKON D40X (38mm, f/4.5, 1/40 sec, ISO100) Flying over the Alps, coming back home in the evening, I noticed the clouds below moved by strong winds in many waves, following the orography of the mountains. I found interesting this effect, especially if compared with the clear sky over them. I choose to use black and white because it stress the attention to the wave shapes.

NIKON D40X (80mm, f/5.3, 1/20 sec, ISO100) There was still some morning fog in the countryside when I saw these couple of trees and the sun almost covered by the clouds. The feeling was, one more time, silence, loneliness and mistery. The noise of the shot was the only one to disturb the muffled atmosphere. Magic.
NIKON D40X (34mm, f/7.1, 1/2 sec, ISO100) Looking to the sky I saw this color contrast between the evening blue and the reddish clouds. I moved to a position where the winterly naked trees could be included in the image. They added a sort of silhouette and texture to the image, so to avoid a picture quite similar to a flag reproduction. I see this image both graphic and abstract as well as a style research picture.
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/40 sec, ISO100) Late evening, exiting as last visitors of the Infini.To Astronomical Park, I discovered this contrast between the Eremo technological antenna towers and the Alps behind them in their dusk colors. I just played a little bit with the colors to get a more realistic contrast feeling between the clouds (still in the sun) and the ground (already in the dark). I think that the contrast between the “vertical modern” and the “horizontal natural” subjects is an interesting comparison.
It was a uncertain a day with uncertain weather. SometiNIKON D40X (65mm, f/5, 1/400 sec, ISO100) mes the sun won, sometimes not. I was looking at the sky often to check what was going to happen. Looking at this corrugated iron rooftp (underneath it there are cooling equipments) I was thinking that, maybe, isolating it from other building parts, just keeping it and the sky, could be a good idea. So I took the photo, and this image is the result, quite surreal. I’m almost sure that most viewers first impression is“what he hell is this?”, and yes, this is what happens when you concentrate the image just on a small part of what is in front of you. Without this “extreme” framing I believe that nobody (me first) was noticing that strange metal roof coverage. Technically speaking, I tried with several tricks to avoid the Moiré effect, but with very little results, so I leaved it as is.
I was looking from home window during a heavy rain period, and among a shower and another, some sun rays peeped out through the clouds. They were looking to me like a sign of presence of a superior authority. I quickly took my camera and shoot this image.
Unlike its color version, this b/w image highlights the wave-like shape of the clouds, and so I prefer this version. At a closer look, the tiles on the roofs seem to align in waves too, thus blending the two parts of the image
I was coming back home when I saw that clouds, with the classical cauliflower-like shape (quite unusual in autumn season), and when I tried to look at them with the camera, I saw the red of the rooftops, which I did not noticed very well previously, so I included them in the picture.
NIKON D40X (32mm, f/7.1, 1/60 sec, ISO100) We decided to stop on the northern side of the Mont Cenis lake for a picnic dinner. The Variselle fort on the side of the dam had a small cloud frozen in the sunlight. I mounted quickly the tripod to get this HDR shoot which shows well the magic of that moment.
