NIKON D40X (42mm, f/4.5, 1/13 sec, ISO100) Looks an antique photo, even if done today, due the total lack of modernity signs (wires, lights,…). A very narrow road on the S. Giulio island (Orta Lake). The curve and the light at its end may also ideally raise questions about what’s behind it, adding some suspance to the picture.
A backyard floor recently renewed has the trace of the tires and the cars which passed there. An image about randomness, repetitive patterns and abstractionism. Something different from the daily usual experience, especially because it’s under the sight of everyone.
Walking in the Valentino’s park in Turin, I saw that the Monte dei Cappuccini church illuminated by a stratified storm weather light. Just a bit of HDR technique to show the impression I got from this view, and here it is.
NIKON D40X (32mm, f/6.3, 1/160 sec, ISO100) March is a month where (in this part of Italy) the snow in plain is unusual, especially if the snowfall is abundant, so I quickly take this shoot which is an almost natural black and white one, even if not converted in grayscale.
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/200 sec, ISO100) I found this plantation in the middle of Southern France. I like the regular disposition of the trees and that they’re almost all similar in size. The long lens compression effect helps a lot this image.
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO100) I was in mountain during a quite gray day. Sometimes a small clear patch happened in the clouds, and I was lucky enough to capture these peaks which came out for few minutes. They make me think to a dreamy atmosphere. The picture was taken in Lanzo valley (NW Italy)
NIKON D40X (200mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO100) Walking in Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer (Camargue, France) shoreline, I saw these nice lod-looking streetlamps, and with the light cloud overcast it was easy, just pushing the contrast a bit, obtain an almost black or white image.
NIKON D40X (52mm, f/8, 1/160 sec, ISO100) I was wandering in Haute Provence – South of France, when I found this beautiful mountain. It remebered me the famous “El Capitan” rock in Yosemite National Park (this one is smaller, anyway) and the Ansel Adams images, so I stopped and found a good location where take this shoot, of course in black and white like the Master.This is a tribute to him and his art.
NIKON D40X (18mm, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, ISO100) Walking in Turin, I passed by chance under the tallest (as for today) private building of the town. Of course it’s small if compared with other skyscrapers (this has 19 floors and is 109 m. high, built in 1931), anyway it stretch skywards if compared with the surrounding blocks. It’s tall enough to play with geometry lines when an image is shooted close and below.
NIKON D40X (38mm, f/4.5, 1/40 sec, ISO100) Flying over the Alps, coming back home in the evening, I noticed the clouds below moved by strong winds in many waves, following the orography of the mountains. I found interesting this effect, especially if compared with the clear sky over them. I choose to use black and white because it stress the attention to the wave shapes.

NIKON D40X (80mm, f/5.3, 1/20 sec, ISO100) There was still some morning fog in the countryside when I saw these couple of trees and the sun almost covered by the clouds. The feeling was, one more time, silence, loneliness and mistery. The noise of the shot was the only one to disturb the muffled atmosphere. Magic.
NIKON D40X (82mm, f/5.3, 1/80 sec, ISO100) Early morning after the biggest snowfall of the last 20 years here. I was fascinated by the symmetry given by the trees and the garden seats. Also the “sky” done by the branches was intriguing. The image is b/w, but there were so little different colors, that also in color would have been almost the same.

NIKON D40X (55mm, f/4.8, 1/40 sec, ISO100) It was a really cold morning. The frost on the grass was quite thick even for the season. I took this image to communicate the sense of abandon which often in winter has the countryside. It’s a strong feeling, which together with silence leave you breathless. The use of sepia tint enhance this feeling.
Unlike its color version, this b/w image highlights the wave-like shape of the clouds, and so I prefer this version. At a closer look, the tiles on the roofs seem to align in waves too, thus blending the two parts of the image
Often we do not note how many things are just over our normal line of sight. If you try to leave the horizon out, just keeping what points directly to the sky, a different world appears. That’s what I’ve done with this picture, where what looks like envious signs of the human attempt to reach the sky remains in their inadequacy if compared with the target.
Early morning, going to work driving in the Asti area, the first silent mists were all around me. I decide to stop briefly to take some pictures. In my mind the evanescence of the far background, the few trees in the middle and the soft sunlight render well the idea of the upcoming autumn season.
